I am a Research Assistant Professor with Department of Computing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where I also defended my Ph.D. degree in Dec. 2020. Prior to that, I received my M.Eng. degree (2015) from Waseda University, Japan, and B.Eng. degree (2013) from Sichuan University, China, all in Computer Science. From 2021 to 2022, I was an Associate Professor with School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, SWUFE, China, and from 2019 to 2020, I was a Visiting Ph.D./Researcher with University of Sydney, Australia. Before diving into academia, I used to be a management consultant and banker after Waseda (“Life is about trial and experience until you find your destiny”).
I am generally interested in AI in "Edges", with the ultimate goal of building Generalized Intelligent Paradigms that learn from Limited Resources in terms of Data, Computing Capability, or Both (namely "Low-Shot Edge AI" we defined), and some of their derivative Applications that are beneficial from theory to practice. Our topics include zero/few-shot learning, federated/distributed learning, model compression, representation learning, and deployment/training of foundation models on edges. Our works are published in prestigious venues in artificial intelligence and its interdisciplinary areas, including AAAI, CVPR, IJCAI, ICLR, ACM-MM, USENIX-ATC, ICME, ICASSP, ICDCS, TNNLS, TPAMI, TMM, TC, NN, etc. As the Principal Investigator (PI), I have secured several external grants like General Research Fund (GRF) from the Hong Kong RGC, Young Scientists Fund from the NSFC, and Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities. I am currently serving as Associate Editor for IEEE Open Journal of the Computer Society (IEEE OJ-CS) and Guest Editor for IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems (IEEE TCSS). I have served as Publicity Chair for SRDS 2022 and Track Chair for VTC 2024 Fall, and have served as Area Chair and/or Session Chair for prestigious conferences like ICML, ACM-MM, ICME, and VTC. I also regularly serve as PC Member and/or Reviewer for AAAI, CVPR, NeurIPS, ACM-MM, ICML, ICCV, ICME, ICASSP, ECCV, etc., and Reviewer for a series of IEEE transactions and journals like TNNLS, TMM, TMC, TKDE, TSUSC, JSAC, IoT-J, etc. I am a Panel Reviewer for the Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
