I am currently a Research Assistant Professor with Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (eligible to supervise Ph.D./Postdoc/RA as PI). I successfully defended my Ph.D. degree in Dec. 2020 at the same university, supervised by Prof. Song Guo (now HKUST). Prior to that, I received my M.E. degree (2015) from Waseda University, Japan, supervised by Prof. Takayuki Furuzuki, and B.E. degree (2013) from Sichuan University, China, all in Computer Science and AI/ML. From 2021 to 2022, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, remotely with University of Sydney (where I was also a Visiting Ph.D. from 2019 to 2020), Australia, co-supervised by Prof. Dacheng Tao (now NTU) and Dr. Tongliang Liu, and concurrently, an Associate Professor with School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, SWUFE, China. Earlier before I did my Ph.D., I spent nearly 2 years in the investment banking industry after Waseda (“no experience in life is ever wasted”).
I am interested in Low-Shot AI: learning/modeling with Limited Resources in terms of Data-, Computing Capability-, and their derivative Applications- that are beneficial from theory to practice. Some specific topics include zero/few-shot learning, federated learning, representation learning, model compression, and lightweight deployment/training of foundation models. Our works are published in prestigious venues, including AAAI, IJCAI, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, MM, ATC, ICME, ICASSP, ICDCS, TNNLS, TPAMI, TMM, TC, NN, etc. As the Principal Investigator (PI), I have secured several external grants like 2 × General Research Funds (GRF) from Hong Kong RGC, the Young Scientists Fund from NSFC, and the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities. I have served as Publicity Chair for SRDS 2022 and Track Chair (TPC Vice-Chair) for VTC 2024 Fall, and have served as Area Chair / Senior PC and/or Session Chair for prestigious venues like ICML, ACM-MM, AAAI, IJCAI, ICME, and VTC.
