Hi there! This is JC, currently a Research Assistant Professor with Department of Computing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I defended my Ph.D. degree in Dec. 2020 at the same university🇭🇰 and supported by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) from Hong Kong RGC. Prior to that, I received my M.E. degree (2015) from Waseda University, Japan🇯🇵, and B.E. degree (2013) from Sichuan University, China🇨🇳, all in Computer Science and AI/ML. From 2021 to 2022, I did Postdoctoral Training remotely with The University of Sydney (where I was also a Visiting Ph.D. from 2019 to 2020), Australia🇦🇺, and concurrently as an Associate Professor with the School of Computing and AI, SWUFE, China🇨🇳. Earlier, before I did my Ph.D., I spent nearly 2 years in the investment banking industry after Waseda (“no experience is ever wasted”).
I am generally interested in Resource-Efficient Computing and Edge AI, which target learning/modeling with Limited Resources in terms of Data-, Computing Capability-
, as well as exploring their derivative Applications-
on wide spectrums. Some specific topics include zero/few-shot learning, federated learning, representation learning, model compression, and lightweight solutions for foundation/large models. According to Google Scholar profiles, I am ranked 14th worldwide in Zero-Shot Learning, 24th in Efficient AI, and 65th in Edge AI. Our works are published in various prestigious venues, including AAAI, IJCAI, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, MM, ATC, ICME, ICASSP, ICDCS, TNNLS, TPAMI, TMM, TC, NN, etc. As the Principal Investigator (PI), I have secured several external grants like 2 × General Research Funds (GRF) from Hong Kong RGC, one Young Scientists Fund from NSFC, one Industrial Gifted Fund, and one Fundamental Research Fund for the Central Universities.
